FPB conducts public consultations on draft online regulation policy

The Film and Publication Board (FPB) is conducting national public consultations to give South Africans the opportunity to provide input on the Draft Online Regulation Policy. The consultations began in April and run through June 2015.

The Film and Publication Board (FPB) is conducting national public consultations to give South Africans the opportunity to provide input on the Draft Online Regulation Policy. The consultations began in April and run through June 2015.

The draft policy is available for public viewing and comment on the FPB website. The FPB invites the public to view the policy and submit their comments, as well as to attend the engagements happening in the various provinces.

The first public consultation took place in KwaZulu-Natal on 10 April. Further consultations are scheduled to take place as follows:

Western Cape: 23 April 2015, 17h00–19h00 – Artscape Theatre, DF Malan Street, Foreshore, Cape Town
Limpopo: 6 May 2015, 17h00–19h00 – Library Auditorium, 71 Hans van Rensburg Street, Library Gardens, Polokwane
Eastern Cape: 14 May 2015, 17h00–19h00 – City Hall, Govan Mbeki Avenue, Port Elizabeth
Mpumalanga: 21 May 2015, 17h00–19h00 – Kanyamazane Community Hall, Sunbird Street, Kanyamazane, Mbombela
Gauteng: 28 May 2015, 17h00–19h00 – Turbine Hall (The Glass House), 65 Ntemi Piliso Street, Johannesburg
The policy has been developed in pursuant of section 4A of the Films and Publications Act, 61 of 1996, as amended.

It was published in the Government Gazette on 4 March 2015, allowing any person who wishes to submit representations or comments to do so within 90 (ninety) days from the date of publication, by no later than 15 July 2015, 16h00.

Any person who wishes to submit representations or comments is invited to do so within 90 (ninety) days from the date of publication, by no later than 16h00 on 15 July 2015.

Submissions should be e-mailed to [email protected] or hand-delivered to the FPB head office at Eco Glade 2, 420 Witch Hazel Street, Eco Park, Centurion, 0169 and marked for attention Ms. Tholoana Ncheke.

The Film and Publication Board (FPB) is a public entity established in terms of the Films and Publications Act 65 of 1996, as amended. The purpose of the FPB is to regulate the creation, production, possession and distribution of certain publications, games and films by means of classification, the imposition of age restrictions, and giving of consumer advice, and further makes the use of children in and the exposure of children to pornography punishable.
