Workshop presentation on the experiences of women and girls resident in rural areas of western, southern and eastern Africa with poor accessibility (to services and markets) and inadequate transport (in terms of regularity, reliability and cost). Transport on unpaved roads can be twice as expensive as on paved roads. Women and girls are particularly constrained by lower incomes, time poverty (as a result of having to do household tasks), and the tendency of men to associate female mobility with promiscuity.
